5 Tips for Natural Back Pain Relief During Pregnancy

5 Tips for Natural Back Pain Relief During Pregnancy

One of the most common afflictions for women during pregnancy is back pain.  Fortunately for these women, there are a number of ways to achieve natural back pain relief, both upper and lower.  Let’s look at five different options.

  1. Maintain good posture – During pregnancy, the body’s center of gravity is pulled forward.  This stresses the muscles of the lower back, causing pain.  One way to remedy this is to keep the back as straight as possible, both while sitting and standing.  This helps to maintain the spine’s normal shape and relieve the strain on back muscles.Sciatica During Pregnancy
  2. Do spinal stretches – Of all the exercises for lower back pain relief, this is one of the best. Carefully get on your hands and knees, and while keeping your head up and back straight, extend your right leg and left arm.  Hold this position for a few seconds, and then relax.  Try it again, this time with your left leg and right arm.  Try to do this five or six times.  This exercise stretches the back muscles, helping to prevent them from cramping up.
  3. Visit a chiropractor – Spinal manipulation by a trained professional is an incredibly effective way to achieve natural back pain relief.  Be certain to tell the doctor that you’re pregnant beforehand, so that any necessary precautionary measures can be taken.
  4. Use a lumbar pillow – Sitting for long periods of time can adversely affect the curve of your spine.  A lumbar pillow helps it to retain its natural shape.  Also, it’s important to stand and stretch at least once an hour to stay limber.
  5. Try some basic Yoga moves – check with a qualified instructor first, but a number of Yoga techniques are perfectly safe for pregnant women to do.  They help to keep the back flexible and muscles loose.
